Topaz Values?

I recently purchased an “Imperial” topaz gem from H. Stern in Brazil for a significant amount of money.
Upon returning to Canada and getting it appraised I found out that it (apparently) is pink/precious topaz.
The appraisal was a bit lower ($500 Canadian less) than what I bought it for, but still in the same ballpark.

My mother has an Alexandrite ring bought in Egypt by her mother about 45-50 years ago.
Where is the best place to get it appraised.
Also my mother does not want to have to send it off for valuation.

I forgot to ask…around what time did they start marking gold w/K?
Or what time period did they just use hallmarks on the gold jewellery?

There is nothing like a Diamond. It is the Hardest material (almost 140 times harder than its nearest gemstone) and is named after the Greek word ‘Adamas’ which means ‘Unconquerable’.
This is also why it is used in Engagement rings as it symbolises ‘Everlasting’.
Unlike other gemstones, its primary perfection is based on LACK of colour. The pure colourless or White is the most Valuable, although many shades of Yellow are common.
