Gemstone Valuation Centre:

Welcome to the Online Gemstone Centre, which is part of a small private network of websites involved in all things to do with Jewellery in general, and at this site - Diamonds and Natural Gemstones.

Notice that I have emphasized 'Natural Gemstones' as we don't want to be bogged down with the 'Imitation Faux Gems' or the ever increasing 'Synthetic Gemstones' - including the ever versatile Cubic Zirconia or 'CZ' as it is more commonly known.

We can leave those to my other sites...

As a professional and fully qualified gemmologist, it is my belief that such a site as this is needed in the community.

Being a contributing Author and so called 'Expert' for the 'Ask the Expert' section of About.com I am constantly bombarded with questions there on Diamond Quality, or Sapphire Values, and gemstones in general.

But the problem with such a site is the lack of personal contact, or chance to interact with those who have thousands of gemstone or gemmological questions they need answered.

So this is why the Gemstone centre has been created.

You are the Voice - try to understand it!

This will give you the opportunity to participate in conversation and simply get a 'Straight Answer' to your gemstone questions with the benefit of my reply and general discussion.

So please contribute. You will find the comments form at the end of this introduction...

As a simple side note, you will NOT find gemstones for sale here.

BUT...

It is a costly exercise to Host and Maintain a website, both in time and money. So I trust you will forgive me for offsetting that burden by offering you genuine offers from others in the industry, at what I believe are truly competitive rates.

A win-win situation for us all.

Take advantage of the access you now have to a qualified gemmologist and Valuer with over 35 years in the Jewellery Industry.

I understand from past experience there is no question too mundane, silly or small, and I will endeavour to answer them all.

Your participation is invaluable - Thank you.

Topaz Values Question:

I recently purchased an “Imperial” topaz gem from H. Stern in Brazil for a significant amount of money.

Upon returning to Canada and getting it appraised I found out that it (apparently) is pink/precious topaz.

The appraisal was a bit lower ($500 Canadian less) than what I bought it for, but still in the same ballpark.

Greetings from Australia.

I have inherited what I thought was cat eyes jewellery but I find they look nothing like the images on google.

My cats eyes are round, dime-size and have a eyeball look about them.

Colored Diamond Values Question:

Hello, last week I found a 1.34Ct rootbeer colored diamond, cubic in shape with slight valley like fissures.

Stone reflects metallic with rootbeer flashes.

Would a stone such as this have a higher value to a collector, or to have, “someone professional?” evaluate it?
